Description

These 28 Multisensory CVC Word Family Write the Room Activities were designed out of the need for developmentally appropriate word blending intervention in public school kindergarten settings. Teachers need hands-on word-building activities that are engaging, play-based, differentiated, and decodable. Students ADORE finding and writing CVC words with this write the room activity!

This Resource Includes:

  • 28 CVC word families of focus (see list below)
  • 168 word family cards in all (6 per word family)
  • Color and black and white card options
  • 84 recording sheets in all (3 per word family)
  • Differentiated recording sheet options
  • Directions to print & prep

Use these activities for word blending practice during centers or workstations, small group intervention, tutoring, and individual practice. Place the cards around the room and allow students to search for, read, and write each word on their recording sheet. Each recording sheet prompts students to color the pictures, draw a picture of their favorite CVC word, or write a sentences using one of the CVC words of focus. There are three differentiated levels of recording sheet per word family to help meet the needs of students.

▶️ How to Use:

Each word card measures 3.25″ x 4″. These cards are stored easily in a photo box or file cabinet when not in use. The activity is low prep for teachers – print, laminate, cut, place six CVC cards around the room, and set recording sheets in a workstation with clipboards! Let students hunt for words throughout the room, write the words, color the images, draw a picture, and write a sentence.

☀️Hot Tip:

For an additional level of engagement, utilize two different word families at a time. Allow students to choose which word family they will “hunt” for during the activity, which means they choose which recording sheet to use during the activity.
