Description

FREE Plant Growth Observation Journal will help your students make stronger connections between planting and growing seeds. This is a fantastic and engaging spring activity that covers writing and science! The journal includes three different handwriting lines. Pick the one that will work for your students and make as many copies as necessary to create a “journal”. There are three different cover options to choose from, as well.

Grade Level

Plant growth journaling can take place in grades PreK, kindergarten, and 1st grade.

With PreK, I have had the most success writing as a group. We discuss the changes that are observed each day during a class meeting, and I do the writing to explain the observations that are made. It’s fun to let the helper of the day illustrate the daily observation page that is created. I also have each student draw their own picture for the day so that there are no hurt feelings, and everyone is fully engaged with the activity. Whatever you come up with, know that your idea will create a fantastic class book!

Kindergarten and 1st graders are expected to do their own writing and illustrating. It is such an engaging activity that even my most reluctant writers enjoy writing in their plant observation journal!
